i was at my family's home in potomac, maryland. i was 21. something came over the little t.v. we had in the kitchen, "roosevelt hospital...standing outside...waiting for information." i spent the rest of the next week lying around just listening to the radio. every year i feel the same loss. "i should've known better" was the first song of my musical memory -- the 45 spinning on a box-record player, my father parading my 4-year-old-self around my bedroom on his shoulders. that harmonica lick is embedded in my soul. r.i.p john lennon~
